OUR FATHER’S BLESSING

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)
Scripture supports the fact that we should actively ask for God’s blessing, our Lord loves us and wants
us and wants to do good things for us.
We ask for God’s blessing so we have the wisdom to glorify God and show His love, power and
majesty to all people. The fundamental reason God blesses us is to bring glory to His name. God also blesses
us with gifts so that we can serve and bless others. But the abundance He gives us should always point to the
giver of the blessing, in awesome reverance. In I Kings 8, the Israelites completed building the temple. Solomon
prays a prayer that God would bless the people and fulfill their needs. He states why God should bless His people: “that all peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God; there is no other.” (I Kings 8:60)
Jesus, on the night before His crucifixtion, struggled with the thought of separation from His Father and
the suffering on the cross. His prayer is a perfect example of a selfless prayer: “now my soul is troubled,
and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour? But for this purpose I came to this hour, Father, glorify
Your name.” ( John 12:27-28) Jesus did not ask for physical safety, worldly success or status in others eyes,
a longer time on earth or to do as he pleased. He knew that these things would not lead to God’s greatest glory.
We must understand God is not here to serve us and be used as a tool to meet our needs. We exist to
glorify Him. God blesses us to fulfill this aim.
We are called to glorify and make God known to every tribe, tongue, people and nation. We find in
Revelation 7:9-10 all types of people around God’s throne praising Him: “after these things I looked, and behold
a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the
throne and before the lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands. And crying out with
a loud voice, saying,’salvation belongs to our God Who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’” God blesses us so
that all the people will praise His name.
What happens to people when they praise God and glorify His holy name? Praising Him leads to gladness
and joy! Those who don’t praise Him, walk in darkness. They are bound by fear, idolatry and all sin. These
people are without joy.
Our God is at the center of all things. He is just in His dealings with humankind. He leads us in the paths
of righteousness. Having a relationship with the one true God, being guided and ruled by Him is the source of
deep, inexpressible joy. Glorifying God brings gladness to the people. The more joy we have in Him, the more
we glorify Him. The more we glorify Him, the more joy we have everlasting.
Do you know Jesus Christ, the Son of God as Messiah and Lord? Without Him, all other blessings, health,
wealth, even life, are of no lasting value. Ask God to tear down the wall around your heart and to enter within.
Look to God, He will give you the gift of salvation.
Those of you that know Him, ask God to bless you that you become a bold, living witness to those children
of wrath, walking in darkness. Tell the Lord you will walk, speak and act in obedience to His will. Ask God to
bless you. Glorify Him and let all the people sing for Joy! Shalom
