FINDING GOD’S WILL FOR OUR LIFE

As followers of Christ, nothing should be more important in our life than finding the will of God and doing what is asked of us. The will of God is walking in the steps that God has ordered for our life. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
There are prerequisites for the Lord’s direction and guidance which include humility, respect, reverence, and faithfulness toward Him. God rewards our trusting obedience and fills our seeking hearts. If we try to depend on our own “know it all” and power, we tear down God’s much better plan for our lives.
Success in our lives is finding God’s will for our life, following His will and, to keep on keeping on, in His will!
How do we live a life of humility, reverence and faithfulness to God? The first way is to live a morally pure lifestyle. “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor.” (I Thess. 4:3-4) To experience Christ in our lives we must turn from sin, selfish wants and attitudes. Christ’s active presence inside of us makes us holy.
Secondly, to know God’s will for our life, we must hand over the control of our life to Him. We must surrender and know that He is trustworthy. When we trust in our God, who, through study of His word and prayer, we have come to love, we are blessed.
Thirdly, we should delight in the Lord. When we delight in the Lord, our will is conformed to His. He transforms our desires and then gives us our desires. As we delight in the Lord, He will lead us through His word: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalms 119:105) Welcome the life-changing truth in the Bible and apply it to your life. A major part of knowing God’s will is knowing whether the “peace” you feel is what YOU want or what GOD wants. Immerse yourself in God’s word! There are many examples of applying the word of God in the Bible. Jesus told Peter to walk on water, but Peter had to get out of the boat, the lame man at the pool had to take up his bed and walk. Israel had to apply the blood of the lamb to it’s door posts so the angel of death would not visit them.
God also will lead us in prayer, if we still ourselves and listen.
God leads through preaching. The things we have heard over and over can sometimes hit us in life-changing ways. When God speaks through a preacher, it is a supernatural time, even despite that the preacher is still a man. Heaven touches earth. God’s word is applied to every willing, listening heart and His word never returns void.
Our willingness to obey God’s will shows that we have a strong relationship with Him and are convicted to obey His will.
Our obedience is a moment of truth. Will you experience His mighty works in you and through you? Will you choose to know Him more intimately? Do you have a love relationship with God? Do you believe God is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do?
Let the inner promptings of the Holy Spirit reveal the will of our Father for your life, read His word hungrily and fall to your knees and seek Him in prayer.
